Kyrie Irving pays homage to his heritage with moccasin-style sneakers

Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving is crafty as can be on the hardwood.

Wednesday, Irving led the Mavericks to a 108-105 Game 1 win in the Western Conference finals over the Minnesota Timberwolves, with the guard dropping 30 points in style.

He donned the “Chief Hélà” colorway of his signature Anta KAI 1 sneaker.

The shoe features a brown hue as its primary color with a honey-yellow sole containing fringe detailing on the back. It stands as a tribute to Irving’s roots.

Irving, who goes by “Chief Hélà” on social media, was given the Lakota name Little Mountain by the Standing Rock Sioux tribe in a naming ceremony in 2018.

“I had no idea how inclusive this group is and what it means to be part of Standing Rock and part of the United Sioux Nation,” Irving said at the naming ceremony.

Irving and the Mavericks will attempt to secure a 2-0 lead against the Timberwolves in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals on Friday.
