Mavs’ Doncic, Irving ruled out against Grizzlies

Dallas Mavericks stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will miss their second consecutive game Monday because of injuries.

Doncic was ruled out of the home game against the Memphis Grizzlies a day before due to the left thigh strain that has been bothering him for a few weeks.

Irving was downgraded from questionable to out about two hours before tipoff Monday. Irving said his right foot has been sore since he played 41 minutes in Wednesday’s loss against the New Orleans Pelicans, when Doncic exited in the third quarter.

Mavs coach Jason Kidd said the status of both All-Stars is day-to-day and expressed optimism that Doncic and Irving would be able to practice Tuesday.

Reserve forward/center Christian Wood was a late addition to Dallas’ injury report Monday, listed as questionable because of right foot soreness. Kidd said Wood would be a game-time decision.

Doncic and Irving both missed Saturday’s 112-108 loss to the Grizzlies in Memphis, which dropped Dallas to .500 with 14 games to play.

Doncic’s left thigh has been bothering him for several games and has gotten progressively more painful, leading to his early exit in Wednesday’s game.

An MRI on Doncic’s left thigh Thursday revealed no damage, and Doncic will return once the discomfort allows him to, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Irving was ruled out 90 minutes before tipoff Saturday.

“The soreness is a concern, so when we go back (to Dallas), we’ll take a look at that,” Kidd said before the game Saturday. “Hopefully, he’s not out too long.”
