Clips’ Powell out at least a week to treat shoulder

NBA

SACRAMENTO — Norman Powell, the LA Clippers‘ sixth man, will be sidelined for at least a week as he undergoes treatment on his injured left shoulder before being reevaluated.

The team said Powell suffered a left shoulder subluxation in the second half of the Clippers’ 115-91 loss at Golden State on Thursday night. The team said after a week of therapy and treatment, it hopes to have a better idea of a timeline for his recovery.

Losing Powell for an uncertain amount of time comes at an unfortunate time for the Clippers, who entered Friday night’s game at Sacramento on a four-game losing streak. They faced the Kings, a team that beat them 176-175 in double overtime in the second-highest-scoring game in NBA history a week earlier, without several players.

Kawhi Leonard (right knee injury management) did not play as the Clippers followed their season-long plan of holding their franchise player out of a back-to-back to keep Leonard healthy after not playing all of last season while recovering from right ACL surgery.

Ivica Zubac (right calf strain) and Marcus Morris Sr. (left elbow contusion) missed their second straight game as well.

Powell is a candidate for NBA Sixth Man of the Year, averaging 16.6 points while shooting 41% from behind the arc.
