Report: Tszyu set for title eliminator in LA

Boxing

SYDNEY, Australia — Tim Tszyu will head to Los Angeles for a maiden bout on foreign soil with the world title contender set to fight American Terrell Gausha at Crypto.com Arena on Mar. 19.

According to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, the bout between Australian Tszyu (20-0, 15KOs) and Gausha will co-headline the card alongside the super welterweight unification rematch between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano.

If Tszyu was to defeat Gausha (22-2-1, 11KOs), the Australian would be the mandatory challenger for the undisputed super welterweight title and would next fight the winner of Charlo and Castano having already been the mandatory WBO challenger for Charlo.

Tszyu’s promoter, the Sydney-based No Limit Boxing, would not be drawn on the report but told the Daily Telegraph they would have an announcement on their fighter’s future “next week”.

Tszyu was last in the ring in November when he defeated Japanese boxer Takeshi Inoue Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, the 27-year-old Australian triumphing via unanimous decision after a dominant display of boxing.

But he has never fought outside of his home country, reflecting the scale of the assignment that would await him in Los Angeles next month.
