Lee misses weight on eve of bout with Oliveira

Kevin Lee has missed weight prior to a UFC fight for the second time in his career.

Lee weighed in at 158.5 Friday morning in Brasilia, Brazil, prior to his lightweight fight on Saturday against Charles Oliveira. The lightweight limit for non-title fights is 156 pounds.

Lee weighed in publicly two minutes after the two-hour window had closed, however, the Brazilian MMA athletic commission, CABMMA, said he weighed in before the end of the window backstage. Technically, Lee had an extra hour to lose the extra 2.5 pounds, but the decision was made for health reasons not to do that.

According to Lee’s manager Marquel Martin, Lee’s fight versus Oliveira will continue as planned, and Lee is expected to give Oliveira 20% of his purse.

Lee missed weight by one pound before his April 2018 fight against Edson Barboza, which he won. He needed a second try to make 155 before his interim lightweight title fight against Tony Ferguson in October 2017, which he ultimately lost.

The other 23 fighters scheduled to compete on the card, including Oliveira, made weight.

UFC Fight Night Brasilia is one of the lone sporting events taking place this weekend across the world after the vast of majority of organizations have postponed play due to the threat of the coronavirus.
