Indian Wells tennis called off due to coronavirus

This week’s BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament in Southern California has been canceled because of the coronavirus, the tournament announced on Sunday.

“We are very disappointed that the tournament will not take place, but the health and safety of the local community, fans, players, volunteers, sponsors, employees, vendors, and everyone involved with the event is of paramount importance,” tournament director Tommy Haas said in a statement. “We are prepared to hold the tournament on another date and will explore options.”

The tournament is played in Indian Wells, California. The event said fans who bought tickets directly from the tournament can get a refund for this year or a credit for 2021.
