Sources: Braves to land P Odorizzi, OF Grossman

MLB

The Atlanta Braves were finalizing deals for Houston Astros right-hander Jake Odorizzi and Detroit Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman late Monday night, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan, confirming multiple reports.

Relief pitcher Will Smith would go to Houston in the deal for Odorizzi, who started on Sunday during the Astros’ 3-2 win over the Mariners. The veteran allowed two hits and struck out a season-high eight in seven scoreless innings vs. Seattle and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning.

Grossman was not in the lineup Monday night, when the Tigers lost to the Twins, 5-3, in Minnesota. He is hitting .205 this season with two home runs and 23 RBIs in 83 games. Detroit would receive Kris Anglin, a pitcher in Atlanta’s minor-league system.
