NBA

The Atlanta Hawks added two more players to the NBA’s health and safety protocols Wednesday and signed Lance Stephenson amid the COVID-19 surge that has impacted rosters around the league.

Lou Williams and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot were added to the team’s protocols list, joining Trae Young, Clint Capela and Danilo Gallinari, who had been added previously.

The Hawks moved to reinforce their roster by signing forwards Stephenson and Malcolm Hill to 10-day contracts.

The Hawks also will sign free-agent forward Wes Iwundu to a 10-day hardship deal, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Iwundu, who has played for the Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans over five NBA seasons, will sign Thursday in Philadelphia before Atlanta’s game against the 76ers, the sources said.

Stephenson had been playing for the Grand Rapids Gold, the Denver Nuggets‘ G League affiliate. He was averaging 19.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 12 games.

A nine-year NBA veteran, Stephenson has averages of 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 508 games, having played for several teams, including the Indiana Pacers, who drafted him in the second round of the 2010 NBA draft.

Hill had been playing for the Birmingham Squadron, the Pelicans’ G League affiliate and was averaging 16.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in 12 games.
