Avs’ MacDonald ‘alert, responsive’ after big hit

NHL

The Colorado Avalanche said defenseman Jacob MacDonald is “alert, responsive and has full movement” after taking a big hit Sunday night against the Florida Panthers.

MacDonald was hit near the boards by the Panthers’ Ryan Lomberg in the second period. He was stretchered off the ice.

The Avalanche said MacDonald is currently undergoing further evaluation.

Lomberg didn’t get a penalty on the play but it did lead to some big hits from both teams the rest of the period. The Avs ended up winning, 3-2.
