Hawks’ Hunter to have surgery, miss 8 weeks

NBA

Atlanta Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter will undergo surgery to repair a right wrist injury on Monday and is expected to miss eight weeks, the team announced Sunday night.

Hunter injured the wrist in a loss to the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 8. He missed Atlanta’s next game in Utah but played 21 minutes in Friday’s loss to the Nuggets.

An MRI on Saturday revealed a tendon injury that will require surgery.

Hunter, 24, has struggled with injuries early on in his NBA career. He underwent surgery on his right knee in February and missed 49 games last regular season while recovering. He then suffered a torn lateral meniscus in the same knee in the playoffs.

Hunter is averaging 10.8 points and shooting just below 40% from 3-point range this season.
