Grizzlies architect Kleiman signs long-term deal

NBA

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed executive vice president of basketball operations Zach Kleiman to a long-term extension, the team announced on Thursday.

Kleiman, who also serves as the team’s general manager, has played an immense part in reshaping the Grizzlies, who made the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

Memphis boasts one of the deepest young cores in the league, thanks in large part to their ability to find talent in different parts of the draft.

Kleiman, who started with the Grizzlies in 2015, was promoted to GM before the 2018-2019 season and took over as the team’s primary decision-maker in April of that season.

He mad an impact right away, trading franchise cornerstones Marc Gasol and Mike Conley in order to collect draft picks and free up cap space. Kleiman also hired current head coach Taylor Jenkins after the 2018-19 season.
