Bickerstaff gets multiyear deal to coach Cavs

NBA

The Cleveland Cavaliers and coach J.B. Bickerstaff have agreed to a multiyear contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Terms were not disclosed, but sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that Bickerstaff agreed to a four-year deal that will take him through the 2023-24 season.

Bickerstaff took over as head coach last month after Cleveland and John Beilein agreed to part ways.

Bickerstaff, 41, is 5-5 heading into Tuesday’s game in Chicago, including impressive wins over the Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers.

Bickerstaff was hired this past offseason as part of an eventual succession plan with Beilein, which happened sooner than expected after the longtime college coach struggled with his transition to the NBA.

Bickerstaff previously coached in Houston and Memphis before coming to Cleveland. He led the Rockets to the playoffs in 2015-16.
