Source: Raiders’ O’Connell has knee bone bruise

NFL

Tests on Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell‘s left knee revealed a bone bruise, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

O’Connell would like to try to play next Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons, the source told Schefter.

Coach Antonio Pierce did not have the results of O’Connell’s tests when he addressed reporters Monday but said Desmond Ridder would start against Atlanta if O’Connell wasn’t able to play.

It would be Ridder’s first start for the Raiders and would come against the team that drafted him in the third round two years ago.

O’Connell had his left leg placed in an air cast Sunday after coming down awkwardly following a seemingly late hit from behind by Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Calijah Kancey.

ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez contributed to this report.
