Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson is planning to enter the college football transfer portal, sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday.
The five-star recruit caught eight passes for 123 yards during his true freshman season. He missed the Red Raiders’ final four games because of a stress fracture.
Hudson was a massive recruiting coup for Texas Tech. As the No. 22 overall recruit in the 2024 ESPN 300, he became the highest-ranked prospect to ever sign with the program since ESPN began ranking them in 2006.
While fellow five-star recruits Ryan Williams (Alabama), Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State) and Cam Coleman (Auburn) enjoyed instant success as freshmen, Hudson played a more limited role in his first year and finished sixth among Texas Tech wideouts in targets.
The 6-foot, 195-pound wideout from Temple, Texas, earned one start in eight games while playing behind Florida transfer Caleb Douglas.
Josh Kelly, a Washington State transfer, emerged as the Red Raiders’ top receiver and caught 89 passes (third most in the Big 12) for 1,023 yards and five touchdowns.
Hudson is expected to be one of the most coveted receivers on the transfer market when he officially enters the portal on Dec. 9, the first day of the NCAA’s winter transfer window.
