Sources: Packers likely to start Willis vs. Titans

NFL

Quarterback Malik Willis is likely to make another start Sunday when the Green Bay Packers visit his former team, the Tennessee Titans, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jordan Love continues to progress in his recovery from an MCL sprain in his left knee suffered late in the Sept. 6 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles and is officially questionable for Sunday’s matchup in Nashville.

But while the Packers are doing their best to keep their quarterback plans private ahead of kickoff, all signs point to Willis starting against the Titans.

Green Bay acquired Willis in a trade with Tennessee in late August. With Love out, he started last weekend’s 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts, completing 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards with a score.

Willis had said earlier this week that he isn’t looking at Sunday’s matchup as a revenge game. The 2022 third-round pick started three games for Tennessee, going 1-2.

“No, I could care less, man,” Willis said. “I think I got paid the whole time I was there. I’m more than blessed for the opportunities given me. They brought me into this league, whether those guys are there or not. That organization, they took a shot on me. … They did a great job by me.”

Love, meanwhile, took part in all three practices this past week, albeit in limited fashion, and Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur said Friday they would take it right up until inactives are due 90 minutes before Sunday’s kickoff if necessary.

Now, with Willis likely to start, attention will turn to the Packers’ Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 29 as Love’s potential return.

Earlier Saturday, Green Bay elevated QB Sean Clifford from the practice squad for the second straight week.

Information from ESPN’s Rob Demovsky was used in this report.
