Source: Bucs CB McCollum clears protocol

NFL

DETROIT — Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting outside cornerback Zyon McCollum has cleared concussion protocol and will play at the Detroit Lions on Sunday, a source told ESPN.

McCollum left last week’s season opener against the Washington Commanders with a concussion — one of three cornerback injuries — but was able to practice and progress all week before clearing final tests Saturday.

The Bucs will already be without All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr., who suffered an ankle/foot injury last week, along with starting defensive tackle Calijah Kancey (left calf), starting right tackle Luke Goedeke (concussion) and reserve cornerback Josh Hayes (ankle).

McCollum started nine games for the Bucs last season before becoming a full-time starter in 2023. He finished last season with 68 combined tackles (49 solo), 1 tackle for a loss, 9 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles.
