The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed right-hander Thyago Vieira off waivers on Thursday following his one-game stint with the Baltimore Orioles.

Vieira, 31, was designated for assignment on Monday by the Orioles, who acquired him and minor league pitcher Aneuris Rodriguez from the Milwaukee Brewers on May 25 for minor league right-hander Garrett Stallings.

Vieira’s lone appearance for the Orioles was May 27, when he didn’t retire a batter while allowing a triple, four walks and three runs in an 11-3 victory over the visiting Boston Red Sox.

The Brewers designated him for assignment on May 20 after he recorded one save with a 5.64 ERA, 13 walks and 25 strikeouts in 22⅓ innings over 16 relief appearances.

In parts of five seasons with the Seattle Mariners (2017), Chicago White Sox (2018-19), Brewers (2023-24) and Orioles, Vieira is 2-2 with two saves, a 6.71 ERA, 32 walks and 51 strikeouts in 51 innings over 42 relief appearances.

In other moves Thursday, the Diamondbacks placed rookie left-hander Blake Walston (left elbow inflammation) on the 15-day injured list; selected the contract of right-hander Humberto Castellanos and recalled left-hander Joe Jacques from Triple-A Reno; and optioned left-hander Brandon Hughes to Reno.

Arizona also reinstated right-hander Luis Frias (right shoulder inflammation) from the 15-day IL and optioned him to the Triple-A affiliate.

Walston, 22, was selected by the Diamondbacks with the 26th overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft. He has appeared in three games (two starts) this season and has a 2.84 ERA, nine walks and 11 strikeouts in 12⅔ innings.

Castellanos, 26, last pitched in the major leagues in 2022. He is 5-5 all time with a 5.45 ERA, 32 walks and 73 strikeouts in 100⅔ innings over 33 games (16 starts) for the Houston Astros (2020) and Diamondbacks (2021-22).

Jacques, 29, was selected off waivers from the Red Sox on April 23. He made 24 appearances (one start) for Boston since 2023, posting a 2-1 mark with a 5.08 ERA in 28⅓ innings.

Hughes, 28, had a 10.13 ERA with no decisions in 10⅔ innings over nine games (two starts) for Arizona this season.

Frias, 26, was 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA in 6⅓ innings over seven relief appearances for the Diamondbacks this season.
