The Atlanta Braves reinstated catcher Sean Murphy from the 10-day injured list Monday.
In addition to placing Ronald Acuña on the IL, the Braves recalled fellow outfielder J.P. Martinez from Triple-A Gwinnett and designated recently signed infielder Joey Wendle for assignment.
Murphy, 29, has been out since suffering an oblique strain on Opening Day in Philadelphia. The All-Star and Gold Glove winner batted .278 (5-for-18) with 2 homers and 4 RBIs during a four-game rehab assignment at Gwinnett.
He is a career .239 hitter with 67 home runs and 215 RBIs in 439 games with the Oakland Athletics (2019-22) and Braves.
Acuña, the reigning National League MVP, is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn left ACL on Sunday.
Martinez, 28, made his major league debut with the Texas Rangers last season and batted .225 with one homer and four RBIs in 17 games. He is hitting .265 with three homers, 12 RBIs and 14 steals in 45 games at Gwinnett this season.
Wendle, 34, signed with the Braves on Friday but did not appear in a game for Atlanta. He was released by the New York Mets on May 20 after batting .222 with no home runs and one RBI in 18 games.
