Rockies activate Bryant, back, from injured list

MLB

The Colorado Rockies reinstated infielder/outfielder Kris Bryant from the 10-day injured list and optioned outfielder Sean Bouchard to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The team also outrighted infielder Julio Carreras to Albuquerque after he was designated for assignment and cleared waivers.

Bryant, 32, was sidelined with a back injury after crashing into the outfield wall during the Rockies’ April 13 game at Toronto. He missed three games before he was placed on the IL retroactive to April 14.

The Rockies recalled Bouchard to replace Bryant at the time.

Bryant, drafted No. 2 overall by the Chicago Cubs in 2013, was the 2015 National League Rookie of the Year and the 2016 NL MVP but has struggled with injuries in recent years. He hit .233 with 10 home runs in 80 games in 2023 and is hitting .149 with one homer in 13 games this season.

Colorado’s 15-31 record entering play Tuesday trailed every team in baseball except the Chicago White Sox.
