Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Tristan Wirfs did not report to OTAs and doesn’t plan to in the immediate future, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday.
The three-time Pro Bowl selection is seeking a long-term contract and does not want to risk injury, the source said, and the sides have not made enough progress on a deal.
Wirfs, drafted 13th overall by the Buccaneers in 2020, is set to play this season on the fifth-year option in his rookie contract, worth $18.244 million fully guaranteed.
The Buccaneers have spent big this offseason to retain their key free agents. Antoine Winfield Jr. was the latest to cash in, signing a four-year, $84.1 million contract after receiving the franchise tag. Quarterback Baker Mayfield (three years, $100 million), wide receiver Mike Evans (two years, $41 million) and linebacker Lavonte David (one year, $8.5 million) also re-signed with Tampa Bay this offseason.
The Buccaneers are still in the voluntary portion of their offseason program. Attendance isn’t mandatory until minicamp next month.
