Phillies reliever Ortiz on IL with ankle sprain

MLB

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Luis Ortiz suffered a left ankle sprain and was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday.

He sustained the injury in the sixth inning of Saturday’s loss to the Atlanta Braves, in which he allowed two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.

In a related move, the Phillies recalled right-hander Nick Nelson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Ortiz, 28, has an 0-2 record with a 4.76 ERA in 24 career appearances with the Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants and Phillies.

Field Level Media and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
