Dolphins add additional year onto Mostert deal

NFL

MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins restructured the contract of running back Raheem Mostert, adding an additional year onto his original deal with the team, his agent announced Friday.

The restructured contract will keep Mostert in Miami through the 2025 season and is worth $9.075 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In just two seasons with the Dolphins, Mostert surpassed the output of his previous seven NFL years, rushing for a combined 1,903 and 21 touchdowns. He also caught 56 passes for 377 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Mostert signed a two-year contract with the Dolphins in 2022, and rushed for 891 yards on 183 carries, both career highs, that year. He shattered those numbers with 1,012 yards on 209 carries in 2023, with a league-leading and franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns. His 21 total touchdowns in 2023 set a franchise record, as well.

The Florida native will be 32 by the time the 2024 season begins in September, but he has only 645 rushing attempts in his career. For reference, 26 running backs have at least 1,000 rushing attempts since Mostert entered the league in 2015. However, only three average more yards per carry than Mostert’s 5.2.

In his third year with the Dolphins, Mostert projects to split carries with last season’s rookie sensation, De’Von Achane, as the two form the fastest running back tandem in the NFL. Mostert and Achane accounted for three of the league’s 10 fastest ball-carrier speeds last season.
