The Washington Commanders have reached a one-year deal with former San Francisco 49ers defensive end Clelin Ferrell, sources told ESPN’s John Keim on Tuesday.
Originally signed to provide defensive end depth opposite Nick Bosa, Ferrell emerged as a Week 1 starter for the 49ers, holding that position the whole season before suffering a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve in Week 18.
Ferrell, 26, finished his first season in San Francisco with 28 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 16 pressures, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while playing 452 defensive snaps.
The 49ers signed Ferrell to a one-year, $2.5 million deal last offseason after he spent his first four years with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The No. 4 pick in the 2019 NFL draft, by the Raiders, Ferrell had 10 sacks in those four seasons with Las Vegas before departing for San Francisco in his first foray into unrestricted free agency.
He has 13.5 sacks and 133 tackles in 75 career games.
