Northwestern is expected to hire interim football coach David Braun as the school’s permanent head coach, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Wednesday.
Braun has led the Wildcats to a 5-5 record in a season that began with Pat Fitzgerald’s firing in July amid allegations of widespread hazing within the football program.
Under Braun, Northwestern, which went 1-11 in 2022, could become bowl eligible with a win over Purdue on Saturday or at Illinois on Nov. 25.
Braun had joined Northwestern at the start of the year to serve as the school’s defensive coordinator. It was his first FBS job after more than a decade at FCS schools, including serving as defensive coordinator at North Dakota State from 2019 to 2022.
