Duke guard Tyrese Proctor will not play for the No. 2 Blue Devils against Florida State on Saturday night, sources told ESPN.
Proctor, Duke’s third-leading scorer at 11.8 points per game, injured his knee during the first half of Wednesday night’s win over Miami and did not return. The injury has been described as a bone bruise.
Duke coach Jon Scheyer has made it clear there’s no structural damage and that Proctor is expected back this season. The schedule gives Duke the ability to allow Proctor to rest and have him close to 100-percent when he’s ready to return.
In the second half against Miami, Duke started freshman Isaiah Evans, whose recent performances indicate he’s likely to continue in that role, as he’s averaged 16.6 points per game over the last three outings. In that stretch, he’s hit 13 of his 19 3-point attempts.
Proctor is a junior from Australia who shoots over 40-percent from 3-point range and is third on the team in minutes played. He’s a key cog for the Blue Devils thanks to his versatility and experience.
Duke has three games remaining in the regular season: FSU on Saturday night, a home game against Wake Forest Monday and then a trip to North Carolina to conclude the regular season next Saturday.
From there, Duke will have the ACC tournament and then projects as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
