Injury, illness sideline Draymond against Raptors

NBA

TORONTO — Golden State Warriors star forward Draymond Green was ruled out against the Toronto Raptors due to illness and a back injury.

Green participated in the team’s practice on Sunday but was not at Monday morning’s shootaround due to illness. He also has been listed on the injury report with a left disc issue as well.

Head coach Steve Kerr, however, said he does not think Green’s back injury is related to the one that kept him out during a portion of the 2021-22 season. Green missed 26 games that season due to injury, including a back issue.

“It’s always a concern,” Kerr said when asked about Green’s back. “I remember a couple of years ago, I think ’22 season, he missed 15-20 games when the back flared up, so we just have to stay on top of it. Training staff is doing a great job with him, and Draymond has done a great job of just doing his rehab and making sure he’s keeping himself in good shape.

“I think he’s should be fine going forward. We just take it day by day.”

The Warriors did get Andrew Wiggins back. Wiggins left the team while it was in Detroit last Thursday to head back to San Francisco for personal reasons. He participated in practice on Sunday.

Gary Payton II (calf) and Brandin Podziemski (abdomen) both remain out but are nearing possible returns. Payton went through practice on Sunday. Kerr said Podziemski got a workout in during the team’s shootaround on Monday.
