Top-five recruit Alijah Arenas, son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, is in the process of reclassifying into the 2025 class, his father announced Monday night.

Arenas made the announcement on his NBA Watch Party stream.

“We’re reclassing up right now. I think they just approved it today,” Arenas said. “This is his senior year now.”

A 6-foot-6 guard from Chatsworth High School (California), Arenas is ranked as the No. 1 shooting guard and the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2026 class. If he does indeed complete his reclassification, he will become one of the five best available recruits in the country.

Arenas is one of the elite scorers in high school basketball. In six games on the Adidas 3SSB in July, Arenas averaged 22.0 points and 4.2 rebounds, making better than 46% of his attempts from 3-point range. That stretch included a 29-point, six-rebound effort against top-five recruit Nate Ament‘s Team Loaded VA team.

Arenas’ recruitment is not too advanced, although he recently visited Arizona for the Wildcats’ game against Duke and has also been to UCLA’s campus. Alijah Arenas’ sister Izela plays at Louisville, and the Cardinals have been involved in Alijah’s recruitment.

Other schools linked to Arenas include Kentucky, which reportedly offered him last month, Kansas, Alabama, Texas and USC.

He will turn 18 years old in March.

Gilbert Arenas played two seasons at Arizona, helping lead the Wildcats to the 2001 national championship game, before spending more than a decade in the NBA. He was a three-time NBA All-Star, earning All-NBA honors in three consecutive seasons 2005-07.
