Sources: Pack QB Love expected back vs. Vikes

NFL

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Three weeks after he sprained the MCL in his left knee in the season opener, Jordan Love will return to his post as the Green Bay Packers‘ starting quarterback.

League sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Love is expected to be active on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field.

Love missed two games, and the Packers (2-1) won them both with Malik Willis as the fill-in starter, beating the Indianapolis Colts in the Week 2 home opener and winning at the Tennessee Titans last week.

Love actually returned to practice the week of the Titans game and was close to returning this past Sunday.

He said after Wednesday’s practice that his mobility had improved from the previous week.

“Yeah, definitely,” Love said. “I feel like I’m getting better every day, moving around, getting out there practicing and feeling better.”

His injury occurred in the final seconds of his first game since he signed a four-year, $220 million contract extension.

Initially, some thought Love could miss three to six weeks, but when the Packers did not put Love on injured reserve, it meant they felt strongly about him missing fewer than four games.

With Love playing, the Packers did not elevate Sean Clifford from the practice squad. The previous two weeks, he had been elevated to serve as the backup quarterback.

However with cornerback Jaire Alexander questionable because of quad and groin injuries, they elevated cornerbacks Kamal Hadden and Robert Rochell from the practice squad to the active roster for game day.
