Red Sox place 3B Devers (shoulder) on 10-day IL

MLB

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with left shoulder inflammation, the team announced, likely ending his season.

Devers left Friday’s 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins in extra innings. The All-Star slugger has been battling shoulder inflammation and soreness for months.

Manager Alex Cora said after Friday’s game that Devers would be undergoing an MRI on his shoulder, adding this is probably “it for him” this season.

The Red Sox are five games out of a wild-card spot in the American League with eight regular-season games remaining.

Devers, who turns 28 next month, slashed .272/.354/.516 with 28 home runs and 83 RBIs this season.
