Giants sign Van Roten to be in the mix at RG

NFL

The New York Giants have signed veteran offensive lineman Greg Van Roten, coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday.

Van Roten, 34, has started 71 games in his career, including 17 last season where he had perhaps his best season for the Las Vegas Raiders under offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo.

Bricillo is the Giants’ new line coach this season.

The Giants’ plan with Van Roten is to “throw him into the mix.” There could be an opening as a starting guard after Jermaine Eluemunor was bumped out to right tackle at the start of training camp.

Van Roten ranked 28th among guards in PBWR (92.1%) last season while playing exclusively on the right side, though he played extensively on the left side earlier in his career and also has some experience at center.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson contributed to this report.
