Sources: Plant-McCumby postponed due to injury

Caleb Plant was set to fight Trevor McCumby on Aug. 17 in Orlando, Florida, but the bout was postponed after McCumby suffered a cut over his right eye, sources told ESPN.

The WBA interim super middleweight title bout — set to be PBC’s first non-PPV Prime Video headliner — will be rescheduled, sources said. The entire PBC event at the Caribe Royale Resort has been postponed.

It was never formally announced, but Plant posted on social media last week that he was fighting McCumby on Aug. 17 with no other details.

Plant, a former super middleweight titleholder, hasn’t competed since a decision defeat to David Benavidez in March 2023. Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) made three successful title defenses before he was KO’ed by Canelo Alvarez in an undisputed super middleweight championship fight in November 2021.

The 32-year-old Plant, who fights out of Las Vegas, was ESPN’s No. 5 super middleweight before he was removed for inactivity.

McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs), a 31-year-old from Glendale, Arizona, has never challenged for a world title.
