Denver Nuggets first-round pick DaRon Holmes II underwent surgery to repair a torn right Achilles, the team announced on Monday.
The Nuggets said updates on Holmes’ status will be provided at a later date though it’s likely he will miss the 2024-25 season. It can take up to a calendar year to fully recover from a torn Achilles.
Holmes suffered the injury Friday during the Nuggets’ 88-78 loss to the LA Clippers in their summer league opener after scoring 11 points in 26 minutes.
The Nuggets traded up to draft Holmes with the 22nd pick in last month’s draft and had hope he would crack the regular-season rotation as a backup big.
Holmes, 21, played three seasons at Dayton and averaged 20.4 points and 8.5 rebounds as a junior last year.
