Marlins’ Luzardo (back) scratched from Sat. start

MLB

MIAMI — Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Seattle Mariners because of a back issue.

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said before Friday’s series opener against the Mariners that Luzardo had been dealing with the back issue for a couple of weeks. The team evaluated him further Friday.

Luzardo has dealt with other injuries throughout the season and was previously on the injured list April 26 because of left elbow tightness, and again on May 11.

Luzardo, 26, is 3-6 with a 5.00 ERA in 66⅔ innings and 12 starts. He allowed 5 hits, 2 runs and 2 home runs and struck out two in his last start, on Sunday at Washington.
