Cubs’ Wicks exits start in 2nd with oblique injury

MLB

Cubs starter Jordan Wicks left Chicago’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday after 1⅔ innings because of discomfort in his right oblique.

Wicks walked off the field accompanied by a trainer after giving up a two-out single to Dylan Carlson. Kyle Hendricks came in and retired Brendan Donovan on a grounder to second.

Wicks gave up two hits and struck out two over 28 pitches in his first start and second appearance since returning from a strained left forearm that had sidelined him for six weeks.

He owns a 1-2 record and 4.18 ERA across seven appearances (six starts) this season.

The Associated Press and Field Level Media contributed to this report.
