Chiefs’ Thompson awake, alert after cardiac event

NFL

Chiefs defensive end BJ Thompson is awake one day after being rushed to the hospital for a medical emergency, his agent, Chris Turnage, told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Friday.

Thompson was taken to a Kansas City hospital Thursday after sources said he suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest.

Turnage had previously told Fowler that doctors were optimistic about Thompson’s recovery prior to his waking up.

Thompson was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 draft out of Stephen F. Austin. He played in one game as a rookie, registering two tackles.
