‘Dream come true’: Mariners call up infielder Ryan Bliss

MLB

The Seattle Mariners called up shortstop Ryan Bliss on Monday for his Major League Baseball debut against the Houston Astros tonight.

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Bliss with the 42nd pick of the 2021 MLB draft. He was acquired by the Mariners through a trade last July.

Bliss is slated to bat eighth in the Mariners’ order Monday. The call up fulfills a dream Bliss posted about in 2014.

In 50 games with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers this season, the 24-year-old had a .247 batting average with team highs in RBIs (35), walks (39) and home runs (7). He is currently the 11th best prospect in the Mariners system, according to MLB.com.

The Mariners are first in the AL West with a 28-26 record, set to start a home series against the Astros on Monday.
