Taylor: Hendrickson to play for Bengals in ’24

CINCINNATI — Trey Hendrickson‘s trade request appears to be falling on deaf ears.

On Saturday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor addressed Hendrickson’s desire to go to a new team as he continues to seek a long-term deal.

“We want Trey to play here next year for us,” Taylor said. “He’s going to play here next year for us.”

News of Hendrickson’s trade request was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday, one day before the NFL draft. After news broke, Hendrickson’s agent said that the Pro Bowl edge rusher is looking for a long-term deal with the Bengals, one the team indicated it wasn’t going to give.

Hendrickson and his agent, Harold Lewis, met with Cincinnati’s front office in March to inquire about a potential trade following Hendrickson’s career year. In 2023, he had 17.5 total sacks, which was tied for the second most in the NFL.

At the time, the Bengals indicated that such a move was unlikely after the Bengals gave Hendrickson a one-year extension before the start of that season.

Hendrickson, who has made the Pro Bowl in three straight seasons, is set to earn $14.8 million in base salary this year on a contract that runs through the 2025 season.

“He’s going to have success and we’re going to have success,” Taylor said. “I’m excited for that.”
