The Minnesota Twins placed infielder Royce Lewis on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right quad strain.
The move is retroactive to Friday for Lewis, who sustained the injury while running the bases during the third inning of Thursday’s season opener against the Kansas City Royals. He went 2-for-2 with a homer before exiting the game.
Lewis, 24, is batting .313 with 11 doubles, 18 home runs, 58 RBIs and 42 runs in 71 career games with Minnesota.
Also on Saturday, the Twins recalled utility player Austin Martin from Triple-A St. Paul.
Martin, 25, would make his major league debut should he play for the Twins. A former first-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays, Martin has batted .256 with 14 homers and 100 RBIs in 252 career games in the minors.
