Nationals’ Lile goes to hospital after fall in outfield

MLB

Washington Nationals outfielder Daylen Lile was taken off the field on a stretcher after he tumbled over the wall in right-center during a 4-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday.

Lile, the club’s No. 6 prospect according to MLB Pipeline’s 2023 rankings, was attempting to catch Red Sox prospect Tyler Miller’s solo in the seventh inning. And after the fall, members of the Red Sox stationed in the bullpen immediately flagged the Washington trainers to tend to Lile.

After the loss, Washington manager Dave Martinez told reporters that Lile went to a local hospital to receive a CT scan of his lower back. Martinez added that Lile had movement of his arms and legs.

Lile was a second-round selection by Washington in 2021, out of the University of Kentucky.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
