Bears planning on Fields starting at QB vs. Lions

NFL

The Chicago Bears plan to start Justin Fields at quarterback Sunday at the Detroit Lions on Sunday, coach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday.

Eberflus said Fields is “progressing well” from the dislocated thumb that has keep him sidelined the past four games.

Fields’ ability to grip the football was paramount for him to be able to return.

Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent started the Bears’ past four games in Fields’ place and led the Bears (3-7) to a 2-2 record, throwing three touchdowns and six interceptions.

Fields, the 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft, has thrown for 1,201 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions in six games. He also has rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown.
