Pienaar trumps Yusuf’s all-round show
Batting first, captain Gautam Gambhir fell for 3 and Jesse Ryder and Naman Ojha for 17 each before Yusuf struck three sixes to help New Jersey to 95 for 3. Harbhajan Singh, Sreesanth and Najaf Shah took one wicket apiece.
In reply, Chris Gayle’s 17 off 14 gave Morrisville some impetus before they slid to 18 for 2. Pienaar’s 33 off 17 brought the chase back on track and when they needed 11 from the last over, Anderson struck a six on the second ball before sealing the chase.
Kallis, Milind, Nurse trounce Texas Chargers
Jacques Kallis and Milind Kumar combined for a scintillating 158-run stand in just 9.8 overs to set up a 48-run win for California Knights against Texas Chargers in the first game of the day.
Once Aaron Finch fell for a two-ball duck, Kallis and Milind smashed 15 fours and nine sixes together as Kallis scored an unbeaten 64 off 31 and Milind remained not out on 76 off just 28.
The target of 159 was too steep for Texas. Opener Mukhtar Ahmed (33 off 10), Ben Dunk (18 off 9) and Upul Tharanga (27 off 19) started the chase with some urgency before Texas lost five wickets for just 25 runs and slumped to 110 for 8 because no other batter could reach double-figures. Ashley Nurse took 3 for 12 which included the wickets of Mukhtar and Dunk in the fourth over.
Atlanta Riders vs New York Warriors postponed
The second game of the day was postponed because of a wet outfield after a fair bit of rain in Lauderhill, Florida. The match will be played again on Sunday, August 20. The toss did happen though, which Atlanta Riders won and opted to bat. Atlanta will be led by Robin Uthappa and New York by Misbah-ul-Haq.
