MLB

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired right-hander Jose Ruiz from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations on Sunday.

Ruiz, 28, was designated for assignment Friday after allowing nine runs on eight hits in four relief appearances this season, his sixth with the White Sox.

Arizona also placed Zach Davies (strained left oblique) on the 15-day injured list and transferred fellow right-handers Mark Melancon (strained right shoulder) and Cole Sulser (strained right shoulder) to the 60-day IL.

Davies, 30, has no decisions and a 5.79 ERA through two starts this season.

The Diamondbacks also selected the contract of right-hander Peter Solomon from Triple-A Reno ahead of Sunday’s game against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. Solomon, 26, last pitched in the majors with the Houston Astros in 2021. He was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in six bullpen appearances that season.
