MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins placed right fielder Max Kepler on the 10-day injured list Saturday with lingering soreness in his right knee.
Kepler missed his fourth straight game with what the Twins officially called patellar tendinitis. His status was still being categorized as day to day, and he was scheduled for pregame running to test his knee.
With outfielder Joey Gallo also out of the lineup Saturday because of soreness in his right side, the Twins recalled outfielder Matt Wallner from Triple-A St. Paul and placed Kepler on the IL retroactive to Wednesday.
Kepler was hurt while running out an infield single Monday. He’s 2-for-16 with one walk and one home run this season.
Kepler played in 115 games last year, his lowest total in a full season since 2016. He spent time on the injured list with a broken toe and a sprained wrist.
After the Twins were ravaged by injuries down the stretch in 2022, they’re already missing three regulars from the lineup with second baseman Jorge Polanco (left knee inflammation) and first baseman Alex Kirilloff (right wrist surgery) preceding Kepler on the IL.
