Ignite’s Henderson (knee) ruled out of showcase

HENDERSON, Nevada — G League Ignite star Scoot Henderson, the projected No. 2 pick in ESPN’s latest mock draft, will miss the rest of Thursday’s matchup against and Metropolitans 92 after injuring his right knee while guarding Victor Wembanyama, the projected No. 1 pick.

In the second matchup of the week between G League Ignite and Metropolitans 92 at The Dollar Loan Center, Henderson — an explosive, 6-2 guard — switched onto the 7-foot-4 Wembanyama and appeared to hurt his knee as they collided. Henderson limped toward the sideline before leaving the game and walking to the locker room.

Per Mara Rudolph, communications director for G League Ignite, Henderson is expected to get X-rays following the game.

Henderson scored 28 points in his team’s 122-115 victory over Wembanyama’s squad on Tuesday, a matchup that was attended by Chris Paul, A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, DeMarcus Cousins and Devin Booker.

Wembanyaa finished with 37 points and went 7-for-11 from the 3-point line.

Before the game, Henderson said he did not see the two exhibitions this week as a battle for the top spot in next summer’s NBA draft.
