Commanders’ Young out at least 1st 4 games

NFL

The Washington Commanders moved defensive end Chase Young to the reserve/physically unable to perform list Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least the first four games of the 2022 NFL season.

By moving Young to the reserve/PUP list he does not count against the Commanders’ 80-man roster. NFL teams must trim down to the 80-player limit by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Commanders coach Ron Rivera had previously announced that Young would not be ready to return for Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Young, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft, tore his right ACL on Nov. 14 last year. Young recorded 1.5 sacks last season, his second in the NFL.

He was named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year after the 2020 season when he had 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
