Hornets’ Harrell facing felony drug charge

Charlotte Hornets forward Montrezl Harrell is facing a felony drug charge after police in Richmond, Kentucky, say they found “three pounds of marijuana” in Harrell’s car last month, according to a police report obtained by multiple outlets.

Harrell was pulled over by a Kentucky state trooper on the morning of May 12 for following the vehicle in front of him too closely, according to the report.

Harrell has been charged with trafficking less than five pounds of marijuana, a felony punishable with 1-5 years imprisonment and a fine ranging from $1,000-$10,000 for first offenders. He’s scheduled for an arraignment on July 13, according to The Courier-Journal.

Harrell, 28, was acquired by the Hornets in a trade with the Washington Wizards at the trade deadline. He averaged 11.4 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 64.5% from the field for Charlotte. Harrell will be a free agent this summer.
