Trail Blazers rule out Lillard for rest of season

NBA

The Portland Trail Blazers announced Monday that guard Damian Lillard will officially miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season after undergoing abdominal surgery in January.

The team said Lillard has progressed well through the reconditioning phase of his rehab protocol and has met several key performance benchmarks to date. He will continue his end-stage rehab over the next few weeks.

Lillard last played Dec. 31.

Lillard aggravated his abdominal injury playing for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. He battled the issue throughout the season and his shooting and scoring numbers took a dip.

The six-time All-Star finishes the season having averaged 24.0 points and 7.3 assists in 29 games.
