Toss South Africa chose to bowl vs Bangladesh

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has decided to field after winning the toss against Bangladesh in the first ODI in Centurion. Wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock, who is recovering from an illness, will sit out of the game with Kyle Verreynne replacing him in the XI.

“Quinton De Kock is undergoing a graduated return to play program following a recent illness,” a CSA statement said. “His progress is being monitored by the medical team and a decision on his fitness to play will be made before the second Betway ODI.”

Kagiso Rabada also returns to the playing XI, having last played an ODI in September 2021. The visitors picked the same line-up that played in the ODIs against Afghanistan last month. They are at full strength after a jaded Shakib Al Hasan was convinced to make the trip.

South Africa have never lost an international match against Bangladesh in their home conditions for 20 years. The hosts, who have only won three matches out of 10 in the ODI Super League, will need all the talent they have at their disposal to make the climb up the table.

South Africa: 1 Kyle Verreynne (wk), 2 Janneman Malan, 3 Temba Bavuma (capt), 4 Aiden Markram, 5 Rassie van der Dussen, 6 David Miller, 7 Andile Phehlukwayo, 8 Keshav Maharaj, 9 Kagiso Rabada, 10 Marco Jansen, 11 Lungi Ngidi

Bangladesh: 1 Tamim Iqbal (capt), 2 Litton Das, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Yasir Ali, 6 Mahmudullah, 7 Afif Hossain, 8 Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 9 Taskin Ahmed, 10 Shoriful Islam, 11 Mustafizur Rahman
