Panthers’ McCaffrey done for year due to ankle

NFL

Christian McCaffrey‘s season is over, the Carolina Panthers announced Monday.

The star running back suffered a left ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s 33-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins and played only one snap in the second half.

In a statement, the Panthers explained that an MRI revealed that the severity of the injury warranted McCaffrey going on injured reserve. Because this is McCaffrey’s second time on IR this season, there is not enough time for him to return to the team with just five games left on the schedule.

McCaffrey missed 13 games last season with injuries and five games earlier this season with a hamstring injury.

Information from ESPN’s David Newton was used in this report.
