BOSTON — The Boston Celtics have announced that star forward Jaylen Brown will miss his seventh straight game Friday night against the Los Angeles Lakers because of a right hamstring strain.
Brown has been out for two weeks, since playing in both halves of a back-to-back the Celtics won in Orlando, Florida, and Miami on Nov. 3-4. He’d been listed as questionable to play Thursday — the first time his designation had risen above “out” since he first sat out on Nov. 6 against the Dallas Mavericks.
Celtics coach Ime Udoka said prior to Wednesday’s loss in Atlanta that Brown had begun to ramp up his activity level but that he still was going to be out for that game. Boston had originally said Brown, who is averaging a team-leading 25.6 points per game, would miss one to two weeks when he was removed from the lineup.
In addition to Brown being out, the Celtics said center Robert Williams remains questionable because of left knee tendinopathy, while Dennis Schroder was added to the injury report with a left ankle sprain.
Williams, who has stepped into a full-time starting role for the first time this season, is averaging 10 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 73.4% from the field. He left Monday’s win in Cleveland early with knee soreness, and also sat out of Wednesday’s loss in Atlanta.
“Obviously, playing the most minutes I’ve played in my career, it’s something I gotta be on top of, as far as treatment-wise and everything else,” said Williams, who agreed on a long-term extension with Boston before the season began.
Schroder, meanwhile, was a new arrival on the injury report Friday ahead of facing the Lakers, whom he played for last season. Schroder is third on the team in scoring, averaging 17 points per game along with a team-leading 5.1 assists, after signing a one-year deal with Boston this offseason.
